Hand/Knit Wear - spring 2018
This class was about the exploration of knitting by hand. We learned different types of patterns and used various yarn gauges and materials to create 3 garments and 2 accessories. This was my first time learning to knit. I enjoyed the hands on experience and the experimentation.
-My first accessory is a circular crochet bag with tassels. I used the yellow and alternating colors to create a target-like pattern.
-My second accessory is a scarf. I added wire around the edges to make the scarf sculptural. The wearer can alter the shape of the scarf to their preference.
-The first knitted garment I made was a tie-up tank. I used the waffle stitch pattern to create texture in the body and added on the ties to the sides that can be wrapped around the waist or tie at the sides. This was the first garment I had ever knitted and I wanted to keep the silhouette simple.
-The second garment I created is a knitted/macrame dress. I knitted the tall collar using a rib stitch and tied strings that I macramed into a pattern. This is my favorite piece I created in the class because it allowed me to experiment the most with a new technique and medium.
-The last garment I made was a recycled piece. I did not make the yellow mesh tank but I crocheted into it, adding volume and shape. This piece explores texture through the use of various types of yarn.
